NASCAR overhauls 1968 point system for Grand National
NASCAR simplifies its points by race distance for 1968. Races under 250 miles award 50 points to the winner with one point drops per place, 250 to 399 miles award 100 points with two-point drops, and 400 miles plus award 150 points with five-point drops. The system aims to broaden participation and equalize point money across events.

Coach Paterno moved to more sophomores on defense in the game at Miami, producing a 17-8 win over the Hurricanes while six sophomores remain starters against NC State. Despite a 5-2 record and East top ranking, observers debate whether the young unit can sustain success against tougher foes. Fishermen catch about 50,000 omul lions in Lake Baikal annually.
