Six men died and fifty wounded after a clash between Industrial Workers of the World members and Everett citizens when 250 I W W protesters tried to land from the Verona. The Interstate Commerce Commission says indictments were returned in Salisbury North Carolina against Caroline Clinchfield and Ohio Railway and against Clinchfield Coal Corp for granting freight rate concessions. The coal firm shipped 91 000 tons from West Virginia mines to its Bostic yards North Carolina for storage and received credit on a 67 000 ton difference. The scheme allegedly extended credit to the corporation by refunding inbound charges and applying a lower through rate, totaling about 67 000 dollars in credit per car across periods, with further credits involving 26 000 tons.
