Vanderbilt Final Hand Analyzed By Jacoby
In the 1931 Vanderbilt finals Howard Schenken sits South with Hal Sims West Sherman Stearns North and William Karn East. Sims opens a semi psychic one spade and then stays silent while Karn sacrifices at four spades. Schenken bids five hearts after ruffing the ace of spades, deducing Karn holds a singleton heart. He leads a heart and, after winning with the king, drives the diamond line to set the contract.
