OPA raised prices of most paints by 31 cents to 1.30 a gallon, effective at manufacturers and passing through to consumers. Washington reports that the government may propose federal aid to extend sewer and water facilities to new home sites on raw land outside cities. Housing chief Wyatt said by January there likely will be a recommendation on federal aid as cities face land shortages and more homes will be built on outskirts.
LEAKSVILLE November 4. Eugene Watkins of Cumberland Maryland was burned to death at Draper airport when his airplane caught fire on landing. Pilot Elroy Lewis of Cumberland said both men were former army partners flying surplus planes bought at Camden South Carolina and deciding to refuel at Draper due to low fuel.
Charlotte observed record warmth on November 4 with temperatures around 79 degrees by early afternoon and forecasts of rising highs into the 80s. Fayetteville logged 83, Raleigh 82, Greensboro 80, while other cities ranged from 71 to 79 as the day continued. The weather bureau noted this as the hottest November 4 in 68 years with a cool front expected tomorrow.
