This is Heritage's second office after Los Angeles. Indian Head Hosiery Co names plant personnel managers at High Point and Wilmington facilities Thomas Boyd to run personnel at two High Point plants prior to joining Fairchild Hiller and Robert A Loy to oversee Wilmington labor relations after leaving Mobil Chemical Co.
The Board of Directors of First Union National Bancorp Inc raises the quarterly dividend to 29 cents per share, up two cents from September. The dividend is payable December 18 to shareholders of record November 15.
Peace, manager of the Wilton & Co Inc meat distribution center in High Point, has just returned from a company sponsored marketing seminar in Atlanta. The session aimed to enhance managers of the firm’s distribution centers with advanced marketing ideas to better serve dealers and consumers in the area. Expo leader Lewis Biggerstaff of Southernee & Engineering in High Point serves on the executive committee for the Fifth National Die Casting Exposition and Congress to be held in Detroit November 4 to 7. The event expects about 9 000 attendees and a 120000 square foot exhibit of die casting and metal finishing equipment and supplies. Biggerstaff is national president of the Society of Die Cast Engineers for 1968 69.
Dr. Ralph J. Jolly resigns as Greensboro College president and will become executive vice president of the Alabama Association for Independent Colleges and Universities. The announcement marks his return to Alabama following his resignation.
Jack Rochelle announces Leslie Wyett Flippo to a new vice president for merchandising role at Globe Furniture Co. Flippo, ex-merchandise manager at Sanger Harris in Dallas, will start tomorrow and will relocate his family to High Point. He holds a Virginia Tech degree (1951) and has U S Forest Service service plus studies at Wayne State University.
Piedmont Aviation, Inc. dedicated a new 7 million dollar general offices and aircraft maintenance facility Friday. The sprawling complex, one of North Carolina’s largest buildings, sits north of Smith Reynolds Airport on North Liberty Street in Winston-Salem.
Chester Carlson, nearing death at age, affirmed belief in the independent inventor within a corporate world. The Bell Labs and law student who grew up poor in San Bernardino spoke of giants Edison and Bell, saying the sky is the limit for those working on their own. Carlson’s career, marked by perseverance and late success, exemplified pursuing invention beyond corporate channels. He recalled early struggles, work at Bell Laboratories, studying at night, and a shift from chemical to photoelectric development in 1958, remaining hopeful that independent minds will yield major advances even in a corporate age.
