Democratic candidates suffer tragedies in Smithfield
In Smithfield two Democratic candidates for Johnston County offices died within hours. William Stevens, 72, candidate for re election, and James Moore, 35, nominated to succeed Sheriff W B Massey, died after illness. Moore had served as deputy U S marshal and campaigned actively. Stevens is survived by his widow, four daughters and three sons. Funeral plans not announced.

Winston Salem, Nov 1. A two story frame boarding house on North Liberty street, run by Miss Ora Brock, burned at 2 30 this morning. Antonio Borzi, a tiling expert, and James A Dargan, a plumber formerly of Savannah Ga, suffocated in the blaze and both bodies were badly burned. Several other tenants escaped.
