Burfeindt wins LPGA title with clutch 16th putt
Betty Burfeindt captured the LPGA Championship at Pine Ridge with a two under par 71 final round to finish 287, one stroke ahead of Judy Rankin. Rankin rallied to tie late, but Burfeindt’s 12-foot birdie on 16 sealed the eight thousand dollar prize as Rankin extended her Pine Ridge bid with birdies on 12 and 13. Burfeindt, from Canaan New York, led early with a bogey on the first hole and held on despite pressure, finishing five under par for the event. Rankin earned $5,650 and sits at the top of the 1976 money list with about $66,841 in earnings.
