Freed fliers say they were well treated on return
Four American fighter pilots freed by Communist China after over two years in captivity reached Hong Kong and left for Hawaii. They appeared tired but composed as they told newsmen they were well treated and that they were glad to be free. The men, Capt Harold Fischer Jr, 28, Swea City Iowa. 1st Lt Lyle Cameron, Lincoln Nebraska. Lt Col Edwin Heller, 36, Wynnewood Pennsylvania. and Lt Roland Parks, 24, Omaha, were greeted by U.S. Lt Col O W D Simpson and outfitted by a Hong Kong greeting party before boarding a transport to Hawaii for a medical checkup and family reunion plans.

Four U S airmen released after two years in Red China walked from the border and were examined by Lt Col John Norcross who said they were in good condition. They rode to the Jockey Club in Kowloon then to Kai Tak Airport for the flight to Honolulu aboard the Bataan.
