Treasure In Silver Found In Freighter
After ten days aflame the freighter Sandanger reveals a grim tale of fire at sea off the Mexican coast. Ten people died or disappeared on May 18 while forty five aboard were rescued. Navy firemen extinguished the blaze and found a cache of silver ingots valued at twenty six thousand dollars hidden in the cabins and passageways. Crews planned to salvage copper and aluminum ingots worth about seven hundred fifty thousand dollars before towing the wreck toward Long Beach amid ongoing litigation over ownership and salvage rights.

Rusk Talks With Soviet Premier in New Delhi
Secretary of State Dean Rusk held a secret 45 minute talk with Soviet First Deputy Premier Aleksei Kosygin at the Soviet Embassy in New Delhi likely discussing Southeast Asia and Laos ahead of and after Nehru's funeral. Bundy joined Rusk for travel to Bangkok and Saigon where plans included a stop in Honolulu with McNamara and other officials for Southeast Asia talks.
