Disturbed Youths Ordered Out Of Treatment Center
Seven emotionally disturbed children aged eight to seventeen face eviction from the Children’s Treatment Center in Southern Pines after residents in an exclusive neighborhood complained. The town council says the subsidized facility violates zoning. the mansion center, donated by Constance Baker, is not a permitted residential use. If evicted, Baker says she will pursue court action and may allow the children to remain as guests. Local officials cite fears over safety and property values as reasons for the eviction demand and zoning denial.
