Supreme Court Bars Breach of Promise Suit Over Syphilis
In Raleigh on May 23 the North Carolina Supreme Court ruled a woman with syphilis cannot sue for breach of promise. The decision, by Justice W A Devin, cites a 1939 law requiring disease-free certificates to marry and notes marriage as a civil contract with social implications.
