A nine month old baby and three adults were hurt in a two vehicle collision on NC 109 near Raleigh Road south of Thomasville at 10 35 a m. Catharine Lambeth Carlton of Wagram pulled from Raleigh Road into a panel truck driven by Walter Lemual Smith of Eton College. The injured include Anna McDonald Covington 71 and Ian Rogers 9 months. The baby suffered a fractured skull and all were taken to Community General Hospital. Carlton was charged with failure to yield at a stop sign.

Man Receives Life Sentence For Murder in Charlotte
Artie Gilbert Thompson, 22, was given life imprisonment after a first degree murder conviction in the shooting death of 16 year old Ernest Mackey during an apartment break in. The Mecklenburg Superior Court jury spared the death penalty. Thompson also received 20 years for larceny and housebreaking. Larry Sings, 21, received 10 years for felonious housebreaking. A 19 year old had charges dropped.
