Buncombe Transylvania Johnston Franklin Montgomery Anson were cited as problematic.
Washington AP reports the Social Security welfare bill draws partisan prickles despite praise from leaders in both parties. The Ways and Means Committee added a 5 percent benefit increase to start June 1 1972 after a Southern Democrat switch, boosting its election year appeal and likely passage. The bill also links benefit and tax adjustments to a cost of living rise of 3 percent, a point used for political leverage. The final note points readers to pension coverage on page 2-A.
Svetlana Peters, wife of architect William Wesley Peters, gave birth to a seven pound nine ounce girl named Olga in Marin General Hospital. Mother and baby are reported healthy. Peters, 45, and family reside in Scottsdale, Arizona, with relatives in California.
