Chavis Sues Jones and Officials Over Alleged Curections Abuses
A $2 million lawsuit filed in U S District Court targets North Carolina Department of Corrections and top officials on behalf of Ben Chavis. The suit seeks 1 million in general and special damages and 1 million in punitive damages over alleged unconstitutional confinement and denial of due process after his transfer to McCain Prison. It names Corrections Secretary David Jones Prisons Director Ralph Edwards and prison officers as defendants and cites political motive for the Caledonia to McCain transfer. The filing followed a Grievance Commission complaint.
