April Food Price Rise Largest Since January

Washington AP reports consumer prices rose 0.4 percent in April led by a 0.6 percent rise in food costs. The Labor Department notes gains in fresh fruits vegetables coffee pork poultry and dairy, while beef prices fell 0.6 percent. President Ford called the April rise slightly higher than March but within predictions for 1976.

Washington AP After delaying production of the controversial BI bomber the Senate moves to votes on other Pentagon requests. Proposals to deny 322 million for 60 more Minuteman TI missiles and to delay AWACS aircraft until NATO buys the system were slated for Monday. Senate had earlier delayed BI bomber production to Feb 1, 1961, with a 44 to 37 vote.

Ford weighing new paths to curb court ordered busing

President Ford titled his plan to curb busing as non electoral while exploring federal money to help districts avoid long passenger shifts. Morgan Drops River Bill Objections in Senate

U S Senator Robert Morgan ended his opposition to a Wild and Scenic Rivers proposal protecting 26.5 miles of the New River. Backed by Gov. Holshouser and Sen. Helms, the measure would bar Appalachian Power Co from building dams in Virginia that would flood Ashe and Alleghany counties. Morgan said compensation for restricted land use would be ensured.
