Tariff Plan on Raw Materials Draws Consumer Burden
A New York Times piece argues that adding a 10 percent tariff on raw materials now on the free list would raise little revenue for the Treasury while raising prices for consumers. It cites free import values and examples like hides, rubber, and nitrate of soda, noting production costs would rise and benefits would not go to the government.
