Deboning Plan Pitched by JSDA for Processors
Washington AP reports the Agriculture Department backs allowing deboning machines to include small bone chips in processed meats to cut waste and boost supply. The plan permits up to 1 percent calcium in mechanically deboned meat, facing critique over microbiological standards and contamination risk. Public briefings and comment periods are set across multiple cities through August 25.
