Country Wife staged by NC School of the Arts

The North Carolina School of the Arts drama department closed its season with William Wycherley’s The Country Wife. Despite ribald restoration comedy content, director Robert Murray keeps performances tight with strong acting. The production features Lee Ewing as Horner and Glyn O’Malley as Sir Jasper Fidget, delivering sharp comic energy within a stylized farce. The play’s bawdy plot follows Horner’s scheme to seduce wives, including Mrs. Margery Pinchwife, amid witty exchanges on honor. The cast also includes Fadra LaBlanc and Phillip de Marco, with integrated incidental music and a notable bathtub scene signaling the apparent fraud of Horner’s eunuch ruse. VEN CARVER.
