Captain Albert Justus of Cambridge Maryland blamed a rat for a 30 mile gale driven leak that sank his two masted schooner Speed in Baltimore harbor. The ship went down with one life, the ship's cat, and Justus, his son Samuel aged 33, and crew abandoned in a yaw and were rescued by a passing vessel.
