New York May 10 marks Tax Freedom Day with the US Chamber of Commerce reporting the average American has worked for the government until today. The chamber notes growth in per capita taxes from $17 in 1902 to an estimated $1,200 in 1971 and cites federal and state tax receipts rising markedly from 1960 to 1970.
Harris Survey shows Edmund Muskie 47 percent to Richard Nixon 39 percent with George Wallace at 11 percent. Over two years Muskie trends up while Nixon declines. 1,619 likely voters nationwide polled.
