Southern Official Denies Damage To Development

W R Bellfield of Southern Railways told ICC investigators that lack of reciprocal switching is not hindering High Point's industrial growth. He cited 954 new and proposed industries in North Carolina from 1954 to 1959, noting most were in towns served by a single railroad or by more than one, with only 5.5 percent without rail service. He said High Point is treated like other single or multi-carrier towns and that switching rules are not a decisive factor in locating new industry.
