Clean-Up Week Starts Tomorrow Across City
A two week city wide Clean Up Paint Up Fix Up program begins tomorrow with the public works department directing trash collection city wide. Trucks will cover the eastern half first, then the western half, finishing May 19 with a return visit May 20 and 21. The Junior Chamber of Commerce will host stunts and contests while Garden Club projects are judged for unity of design and maintenance sponsored by the High Point Council of Garden Clubs.

Lead poisoning from illegal liquor cripples, eight die
A Winston-Salem surge in lead poisonings from bad moonshine whisky killed eight people from mid December to early January. The victims suffer extreme cramps, vomiting, diarrhea, and a blue gum line before paralysis and blindness. Some may die, others become invalid. The doctor cites lead as the cause and lead liquor as the source.
