Peasants marching toward Bucharest demand a new government after a Bombay meeting of about 200,000 workers swore to remove the current regime. The crowd endured long speeches as troops and aircraft watched, with Maniu signaling cautious political change and possible regent shifts.
Washington May 7 The new senate campaign funds committee opened hearings on financing the 1928 political battles. Senators Curtiss Goff and Hitchcock attended as Norris testified he had not spent funds, noting a $6 newspaper ad paid by a Nebraska editor. He denied any prior expenditures and said no fund was raised for his candidacy. Curtiss, pressed about Coolidge, refused to declare until convinced Coolidge would not be drafted.
A U S coast guard board exonerates Lt Cmdr J S Baylis and all Paulding crew after the destroyer collided with the submarine S 4 near Provincetown Massachusetts on December 17. The report notes no warning flag and says the cause cannot be determined due to no survivors.

In Shepherdsville Kentucky federal agents hunt two men who fled after seven others were arrested in the slaying of 60 year old Mrs Kate Browning. The family fled a burning home as moonshine informant rumors prompt federal warrants charging conspiracy to intimidate a federal witness. The Browning family sought shelter in the woods while five wounded members received aid from local citizens.
Akron led 50 cities in April postal receipts, up 24.22 percent from last year. Memphis followed with 22.14 percent gain while New Orleans and Nashville saw small rises. Jacksonville posted a 15.56 percent decline, with Louisville Baltimore Richmond and Atlanta also down.
The 2000 ton government dredge Navesink with 47 crew was rammed and sunk 600 yards off Clifton Staten Island by the Cunard liner Caronia. Four men missing. 25 taken to hospital, 18 swam ashore including Chief Engineer Clubert. dredge sunk in the ocean lane, lifeboats lowered.

Rich Manufacturing Company of Greensboro received a state charter today from Secretary of State Hartness. The firm is authorized with a capital stock of 100000 and will manufacture cotton and silks.
Table Rock Cove reservoir dam held after engineers opened three blow off valves and measured 250 million gallons drained daily. Lake level fell from 116 3 to 111 8 feet as sloughing continued, with experts optimistic but wary of unseen factors. Government engineers and Red Cross mobilized for possible emergencies.
Maryland voters cast ballots in statewide primaries for congress state convention delegates and local offices. The main interest lay in a split within the Republican party over control of the state convention while Senator Bruce vs Mrs Parkhurst led the Democratic senatorial race and Hoover faced no Republican opposition for president delegates.
Clarence Darrow 71 begins his last court appearance defending James Munsene of Warren Ohio on a charge of attempting to bribe Sheriff John Smith of Trumbull County. Darrow says he wants one more Trumbull case before retirement.

William H. Williams resigns as vice president and board member of the Delaware and Hudson Company to devote full time to Missouri Pacific interests and the Wabash railway where he serves as chairman of the directorates.
Shanghai dispatch reports a Japanese air strike against the foreign settlement was shot down by northern forces this morning. The same dispatch states 13 killed and 28 missing in anti Japanese demonstrations, with two believed slain, and looting continuing on a small scale.
H. J. Timperley, an Australian correspondent in Tsinan during the Japanese Chinese clashes, has arrived in Tsingtao and wired that all Americans in Tsinan were safe in the Japanese area.
The general staff and war and navy officials propose that Japan retain Shantung Province and its railways amid present difficulties. They also urge the fighting faction of the Chinese to cease warfare in Shantung.
In Niagara Falls a man identified as J. D. Hanson was shot by two coast guardsmen, Glenn Jennings and Chris Dew, who were detained at Fort Niagara on an assault charge. Hanson, seriously wounded, was hospitalized. Local leaders planned an indignation meeting as state troopers aimed to arrest the guardsmen.
