Guilford delegation introduces legislation to form a Central North Carolina Water Authority. Rep. Joseph M. Hunt says the plan targets a Yadkin River area once eyed by High Point for a municipal power project. Land currently sits in federal ownership.
A 65 year old woman, Tealie Byrum of Chowan County near Tyner, was discovered yesterday stretched out in her yard and remained unconscious. Police suspect foul play after she was found by a neighbor near her rose bush about 30 feet from her porch.
A National Labor Relations Board trial examiner held sessions in Fayetteville on a case against Thomason Plywood. An additional unfair labor practice complaint was added as about 400 workers returned to work after the plant closed for a day while the company fought subpoenas against its records.
A preliminary hearing is set for Monday for Hot Springs Police Chief Paul Cutshall charged with killing Alonzo Norton during a chase for drunkenness. The warrant, sworn by Mrs. Mary L. Gosnell, names Norton as the slain man. Cutshall is held on a 4000 dollar bond.
