Train Will Carry Body To Kansas
The Eisenhower funeral train, carrying Gen Dwight D Eisenhower to burial on the Kansas plains, will travel at about 50 miles an hour in a 12 car setup. The route from Washington to Abilene includes Chesapeake & Ohio to Cincinnati, then Baltimore & Ohio, Norfolk & Western, and Union Pacific. The Military District of Washington coordinates the funeral with a preceding train to clear the way. The schedule lists Charlottesville Virginia to Abilene Texas timings, with stops and a ceremonial cathedral winding at the grounds of the cathedral. Many mourners, including Mrs Coleman and Isabella Jones, attend the line viewing. The scene shows a mixed crowd and a young infant among those paying respects.
