Free Will Baptists resign from national body
The North Carolina Free Will Baptist Convention with 50000 members resigned from the National Association of Free Will Baptists after a special session in Wilson North Carolina. Delegates heard a report that efforts to resolve church government disputes failed. The state convention insists on state jurisdiction over matters not resolvable in local churches in contrast to the national body’s stance on church independence. The NC group emphasizes its 200 year history as the nation’s oldest state convention and contrasts it with the national association’s 25 years.
