Underground gas line blast shuts in 16000 customers

A dull underground explosion at 2 20 a m fractured a 20 foot long steel feeder pipe in Greensboro causing about 16000 Piedmont Natural Gas customers in Greensboro and Burlington to lose gas service. Restoration began late afternoon with 100 workers assessing outlets in 16632 homes and industries. No injuries were reported.

Pickets Halt Work At Missile Site

Picket lines formed by office workers seeking union recognition halted work at three Atlas missile sites near Plattsburgh Air Force Base in New York. Union vice president Leo Wallace said four laid off workers, all organizers, were not rehired, replaced instead, prompting the action. Two F8U Marine jets collide near Cherry Point

Two F8U Marine jets from the Marine Photo Reconnaissance Squadron collided during a routine training flight near Cherry Point North Carolina. Captain Robert W. Tucker Jr. ejected and was rescued with minor injuries. Major Walker E Domina landed safely with no injuries. Tucker is from Havelock and Domina is from Keene New Hampshire.

Breakdown Denied Singer Eddie Fisher Leaves New York Hospital

Ed die Fisher left Gracie Square Hospital after a rest period with a spokesman denying a nervous breakdown. Miller Blackstone, Fisher’s manager, said he went to a friend’s Manhattan home and planned a short rest until Friday.
