No-Fault Insurance Bill Falls in North Carolina House
RALEIGH NC AP North Carolina lawmakers killed two major auto insurance bills in a day of action. The no fault measure, passed by the Senate last year, failed 14 to 10 in the House Insurance Committee. Sponsor Rep Jaig Lawing hopes to revive a modified version, but adjournment looms. Senate debate focused on a driver classification plan backed by Sen Gordon Allen. The plan would create 37 categories based on age sex marital status and driving habits, but would let only accident and conviction records count in the end. Insurance interests argue the merit plan ignores statistics showing young male drivers pay higher risk. The bill faces court challenges from insurance companies.

He cites shallow depth data and reservoir quakes, while Vepco witnesses defend safety and investigation thoroughness. The panel notes the fault density as average and jokes about finding a fault beneath the courthouse.
