No Let Up Says Naval Architect on Shipbuilding
Pinlabel March 26. Naval architect W E Riggs of New York Shipbuilding Corp says there has been no sign of a setup in American shipbuilding since the government lifted the ban on private orders. He notes 1,2560,008 tons ordered since the ban eased and predicts it will take five years for world merchant tonnage to normalize. He cites American carriers’ fuel efficiency advantage with 80 percent fuel needs for American ships versus five percent for British ships, reducing crew costs.
