Summit Hill Pennsylvania hosts a legendary anthracite mine fire that began in 1859 and has burned for 67 years. The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co. fought the blaze for millions, sinking slopes and building barriers to contain it. Despite efforts, the fire still smolders with hot spots in the Mammoth vein while drilling and flushing aim to exhaust the remaining pockets.
