Colonel John C. Coolidge, in Plymouth Vermont, was conscious at 3:30 p m and somewhat weaker after a brief decline this afternoon. His physician reported his pulse slower and a slight failing strength while hurrying to his father’s bedside.
President Coolidge plans to leave Washington this afternoon to go to Plymouth to be at his ailing father’s bedside and offer support during the family emergency.
Plymouth Vermont March 18 AP Col John C Coolidge is sinking fast. Dr Albert M Cram said the colonel has been failing rapidly in the last two to three hours and while conscious is extremely weak. The physician warned the end could come at any time.
Plymouth report says Col John C Coolidge aged father of the president has suffered two serious heart attacks since yesterday. Dr Albert M Cram of Bridgewater indicated Coolidge has from 24 to 48 hours for treatment and possible recovery.
President Coolidge plans to leave Washington for Vermont to be beside his ailing father. He will travel with Mrs. Coolidge Attorney General Sargent and White House physician Dr. James F Coupal. The train to Woodstock Vermont is due early tomorrow morning with final leg by car.
Washington March 18 AP report says President Coolidge may depart today for Plymouth Vermont to visit his ailing father. A special train is arranged for the president and Mrs. Coolidge with possible arrival by noon tomorrow. If late today they might stop near Ludlow Vermont or White River Junction for the final leg.
Chicago traders pushed grain prices higher as Liverpool quotes outpaced expectations and milling purchases added demand. Wheat opened 7 to 15-8 cents higher with further gains. corn and oats followed the strength, while hog prices fell though provisions moved higher with grain.
Arrangements were completed this morning for Colonel Charles R. Forbes former director of the United States Veterans Bureau to enter the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth Kansas today. He is under a two year sentence on charges of conspiracy to defraud the government in letting contracts for veterans hospitals.
A seismograph at Fordham University logged an earthquake starting at 9 18 a m. lasting about ninety minutes. Estimated epicenter was 5500 miles away with undetermined direction.
Voters in High Point must register by Saturday for the upcoming March 30 school election. The books stay open all day at polling places and close at sunset. This registration is new. only voters registered during this campaign may vote. Previous registration does not qualify.

New York March 18 AP reports Whiteford R. Cole was chosen as president of the Louisville and Nashville railroad. He previously led the Nashville Chattanooga and St. Louis line and succeeds W T Mapother who died recently.
George Whitfield Bryan, vice president of the First National Bank, chairman of Charlotte financial and industrial life for 15 years, died at his home in Charlotte.
The census bureau estimated the continental United States will reach 117,135,817 by July 1 and lists state counts including North Carolina at 2,857,846. The report notes eight states used recent counts and margins from births, deaths, and migration.
C I Jones of Salisbury cotton broker was seriously hurt in a collision between his car and a locomotive in Charlotte. Doctors described his condition as serious but not critical at St Peters Hospital. He will be confined to bed for some time but is expected to recover.
The small yacht 7400-53, missing for two days, was found yesterday afternoon in Middle Sound. It belongs to Captain Hall of Hampton and broke loose from its tow near Wrightsville inlet Tuesday night. It will be taken to Wrightsville for repairs before resuming its voyage to Hampton, Virginia.
Paris March 18 The chamber of deputies backed Aristide Briand's reorganized cabinet by 361 to 164 with the first section approved 336 to 164.
In Peking seventeen students were killed and sixteen wounded when guards opened fire on a student demonstration before the cabinet offices. The protest opposed the powers demands on free communication between Peking and Tientsin and the sea. Troops guarded the residence of the firing military commander as the powers demanded action by noon. The Kuomintang agreed to follow the 196TF protocol with the United States Britain Japan and Italy, pending conditions on Fengtien warships and Tientsin safety.
Horace Hayworth urged strong backing for the 18th amendment and the Volstead Act at a Rotary club gathering. Raleigh March 18 AP reports Steven Turner 68 of Yadkin County white man must serve two to five years in state prison for immoral relations with his daughters. Pardon Commissioner Sink and Governor McLean declined clemency, citing doubt of guilt and persecution in the prosecution, with Turner's sentence postponed to March 20.

Signed statements place one man directly and another indirectly in the slaying of Dad Watkins whose charred body was found in a burned barn. John Gray allegedly killed Watkins on October 30 at the Gray home after luring him, the motive robbery. Sweat testified Gray asked for help after the murder and the body was moved to the barn with limbs and head removed.

Winston Salem March 18 AP The second day of the 8th annual convention of the New Carolina Automotive Trade Association includes a salesman's congress run by the National Automobile Dealers' Association with about 125 salesmen attending. The morning is devoted to the congress, followed by lunch and more sessions. The convention plans a closing oriental frolic at Forsyth Country Club with a 7 o'clock dinner and the frolic to follow. attendance is expected to be full.
