Religious bodies across denominations plan a coordinated effort to aid homeless and hungry overseas. Protestant and Orthodox churches join the One Great Hour of Sharing and Passover Fund appeals, with Catholics, Jews, and others participating. The 1955 drive seeks over 9 million dollars for relief programs.

The Rev. Tommy Tyson, a noted Methodist revivalist and speaker at national spiritual retreats, will guest minister at Lindsay Memorial Methodist Church. Tyson, native of Goldsboro, appears March 13 through 20 with the church choir leading nightly Singspiritual and spiritual services open to the public.

In Birmingham Alabama ex Chief Deputy Sheriff Albert Fuller has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of A L Patterson the Democratic nominee for attorney general. Arch Ferrell a prosecuting attorney in Phenix City is expected to be tried in about two weeks. Fuller remained calm at verdict while guarded courtroom observers watched for demonstrations. Patterson was shot outside his Phenix City law office 17 days after winning the nomination. Si Garrett former attorney general and now a mental patient in Texas was indicted along with Fuller and Ferrell.
Prime Minister Nehru escaped a knife assault in Nagpur as a 32-year-old rickshaw puller Basu Rao and an unknown man were arrested. Rao carried a six inch knife. Nehru called the event a cranky act and said the attack carried no significance.
Sen. Fulbright says the capital gains tax influences stock prices and supports keeping markets high. As head of the Senate Banking Committee, he cites the ongoing market boom and mentions William McC. Martin Jr. of the Federal Reserve as a scheduled witness.
Nevada’s fifth S088 test at Yucca Flat detonation from a 300 foot tower at 5 20 am produced a brief white flash seen as far as Las Vegas Phoenix and San Francisco. AEC noted 35 tests on developmental weapons and civil effects with smoke screen generators upwind to study reduced thermal radiation. Major Gen Creasy said gamma radiation remains a concern and Army seeks ways to lower it while 65 aircraft backed by Navy fighters observed the event with no incidents.

Local families record tremors since January 1 and describe initial shocks as strong and audible.

Richard Scales, 29, an ex convict, was sentenced to die in the gas chamber for the murder of Bertha Cook and the attempted rape claim. The stabbing occurred January 19 at the Cook residence. their daughter Betty Marie Cook, seven, was also attacked. Scales must die May 27 unless appeals alter the sentence.
