Duke Durham tournament opens as Greensboro, Wilmington bids debated
With the Duke Durham schoolboy showcase starting Friday, Greensboro eyes a bid as Wilmington and Greensboro contend for the second Class A spot after Wilmington was disqualified for an ineligible player. Greensboro’s strength and recent Georgetown style results support their bid while Wilmington’s exit clears the path for Greensboro to face local rivals in the state meet. The column also notes Bear Bryant ending Kentucky spring drills due to lack of spirit and Ted Williams turning down a $500000 Mexican league offer, underscoring loyalty in baseball.
