Jap Surrenders Standard End Historic Jap Regiments
On Biak Island in Dutch New Guinea a Japanese sergeant surrendered with the 16 petaled chrysanthemum flag of the 222nd Imperial Army unit. The color bearer was killed by a U S patrol, and the banner was partly saved for possible home return. Oregon officials consider placing fragments in the State Historical Society Museum. A Portland bank wallet incident ends with a claimed reward.
