South Vietnamese forces mass near Sepone to strike the town and nearby airstrip on the Ho Chi Minh trail. U S helicopters shuttle reinforcements as 20 000 South Vietnamese troops fill southern Laos. North Vietnamese and U S forces clash around Sepone with air and ground combat ongoing as losses mount on both sides.
