American troops under Washington orders began policing Panama and Colon to quell disturbances ahead of elections. The action follows a 1804 treaty and aims to maintain order until all elections are completed and a stable situation is restored.
High Point and surrounding township residents exceeded their war savings stamp quota with at least 225000 purchased, surpassing the 209550 target. The Clyde line freighter Onondaga of 2696 tons gross sank in shallow water after striking a reef in heavy fog off Watch Hill Rhode Island. Coast guards from Watch Hill station evacuated 35 crew members. Built in Philadelphia in 1905 the vessel was en route from Boston to Charleston and Jacksonville.
Greensboro June 29 Miss Mary Windsor Nellie Boland and Raymond Barber are dead Jeff Burton of Reidsville is dying after an automobile collision with a southbound freight train at the Haw River crossing of the Southern Railway six miles south of Reidsville at 1 o clock this morning Barber was driving Boland and the two were to be married Miss Windsor died instantly Barber died en route to hospital Boland died at the hospital Miss Boland was a frequent visitor to High Point homes and Burton is in a Greensboro hospital as family members in High Point react to the tragedy.
