President Hoover thanked Virginia Republicans for unity in supporting his administration at the state convention. The message praised Virginians for striving to stay above one party control and emphasized national cohesion amid political division.
Paul Muller, a Berlin grocer sailor, survived a wreck of the Aga 18 foot boat off Kiawah Island after a May to June voyage from Hamburg to New York. Muller, rescued by Fritz Stroebel near Charleston, recounted the storm, fire signal, and night on Snake Island as he planned to reach New York to marry his Berlin fiancée Agatha Gavinsky.
Virginia Republicans and anti-Smith Democrats form a coalition led by Dr. William Moseley Brown, a former Democrat running for governor, with R. Walter Dickinson for lieutenant governor and C. C. Gastonia scene reports another Loray mill striker was jailed in the O F Aderholt murder case. Dell Hampson, said to have led the camp guard the night of the shooting, becomes the 23rd person charged in the slaying of the police chief on June 7 at the strikers camp.

Nearing a 100 hour mark in a record refueling flight, the Miss Minneapolis piloted by Thorvald Johnson and Owen Haughland fought rain at Wold Chamberlain airport. Officials reported the single motor plane functioned well as it traveled about 6,700 miles. A note said the craft could stay aloft 200 more hours and would not land before July 4.
Washington reports a new system for U S immigration will start next Monday, changing European quotas. About 150000 immigrants will be admitted annually from Europe, with England and northern Ireland rising to 65721, Germany 25907, Ireland Free State 17852, Sweden 3314, Norway 2377, Denmark 1181, Poland 6542, Belgium 1304, and Italy 592. Other nations mostly set to a 199 annual minimum.
