Allied forces push north of Belleau Wood as heavy fighting continues. A large number of prisoners taken by German troops during the engagement plus ongoing captures indicate growing German losses. American troops advance along a broad front near Hartmansweiler Kopf as prisoners flood in.
American troops extended their line northwest of Belleau wood after a 13 hour artillery bombardment. By 10 am 216 German prisoners were counted along with machine guns and booty. Germans describe the assault as brutal and demonic as U.S. forces cleared Belleau wood and held key positions across three Alsace sectors.
Paris reports American forces executed a bold night assault near Belleau Wood capturing 150 prisoners including a captain. The operation was confirmed by a war office statement issued today.
Raleigh June 26 Governor Bickett announced plans to speak in Jefferson Ashe county to dissolve draft opposition he believes stems from ignorance of the war. He ordered Adjutant General Young to send notices to every nook and corner of the county announcing the talk.
Washington officials told the senate military committee they opposed extending the army draft age limits as premature and unnecessary. Provost Marshal General Crowder supported delay but urged action to register under revised ages next year. The committee planned to oppose immediate change while the administration prepares a broader army program for recruitment and logistics.

The third day of the M P church summer conference at the Children's Home featured devotions by Rev A T Hunter and a morning of lectures on church functions, education and ministry by Rev S W Taylor Dr Forbes and others. Attendance rose and officials were elected for key posts as the conference neared its close with sermons by Rev C L Whitaker and Rev W G Holmes and plans to end tomorrow noon.

Isidore a Polish born former employee of Continental Furniture Co in High Point pays 17 dollars in back wages to the local Red Cross chapter after writing Police Chief McGhee. He was arrested as an alleged German agent, linked to a plot against Giant Furniture Co and sentenced to Atlanta penitentiary by Federal Judge Boyd.
Washington reports the Marine Corps casualty list for today naming 50 sailors. Forty six killed in action and two died of wounds. Two marines were wounded severely.
About 60 persons and firms in High Point joined the Limit Club of the War Savings stamps drive pledging the $1,000 maximum. The current call covers 124 925 white and colord registrants with July 5 to 9 entrainment for North Carolina and Camp Greenleaf, Georgia. A combined call adds 220 000 to be mobilized July 22 to 25 with Negro entrainment and Camp Dix and Camp Greene allocations.
