McMillan Retains House Seat In South Carolina Runoff
Seventy two year old Rep. John L. McMillan won the Democratic renomination for a 17th consecutive term in a runoff over Claud Stephens. McMillan carried 45,918 votes to Stephens 18,633 in the 6th District with a turnout higher than previous. Charges of voting irregularities followed allegations from supporters of Stephens and calls for federal poll watchers.
