Duke Power seeks reconsideration of fuel clause

Duke Power Co in Raleigh says it is in financial trouble and asks the North Carolina Utilities Commission to revisit its March 24 denial of a fuel adjustment clause. The company argues the clause would tie rates to coal costs, while officials say it would trigger automatic increases without hearings. The commission previously granted a 4 percent emergency rate rise and may consider an 18 percent fall plan. Duke vows to appeal if the commission does not reconsider.
