The New York Giants purchased outfielder Bob Seeds from Newark of the International league in a cash deal with no price disclosed. Seeds has a .883 average this season over 5 games, plus 28 home runs and 98 RBIs to lead the league in both divisions.
President Roosevelt will address the nation this evening to reveal whether a special session of Congress is probable. He answered reporters at his press conference that the report will come in his fireside chat.
Fifteen hundred steel workers walked out today in American Can company plants located in San Francisco Oakland Sacramento Los Angeles and San Jose striking for unspecified terms.
Admiral William D. Leahy said the president would not order construction of battleships larger than 85,000 tons. After a White House visit he noted four new battleships contemplated would be about 85,000 tons each.

Raleigh June 24 Attorney General Harry McMullen said counsel for New York authority asked the US Supreme Court for a rehearing in a case affecting public employees paid enough to owe federal income taxes. The court ruled port authority officials owed taxes for past years and the decision could trigger tax levies on all public employees unless revised or Congress acts.
Mary Elizabeth Nelson a 15 year old student finished the ninth grade at Allen Jay school reportedly ended her life with a public safety item at 9 30 this morning. A note to her sister explained the act saying she could not think of anything else to do. The coroner said it was a suicide. She was born March 16 1923 and is survived by her mother four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at Bunker Hill Primitive Baptist church Kernersville with interment in Bunker Hill cemetery.

In Hobbs New Mexico an oil well time bomb exploded killing eight people including George A Kaseman a 69 year old Albuquerque banker and seven oil workers. Jack Starkey died later in hospital. four others were injured but likely to survive. Investigators opened inquiries into the accident at the Monument field 20 miles southwest of Hobbs.
Nash County officers and volunteers searched all night for two year old Jimmie Dozier who vanished from his farm. A Negro farmer found the child asleep in an abandoned house, protected by a stray farm dog that would not let others near. The boy appeared unharmed and was escorted home as authorities suggested he wandered away during the storm.

A Japanese embassy spokesman said an inquiry in Nanking found no evidence that a Japanese sentry slapped Dr. J. C. Thompson of New Brunswick New Jersey. The official noted only a routine search and urged more information later.
