Senate Okays North Carolina regional university bill

The Senate approved a bill to create a regional university system including East Carolina College Appalachian State Teachers College and Western Carolina College. The measure would not allow doctorates and faces House passage efforts.

Supreme Court Orders New Day In Stanback Divorce Appeal

North Carolina Supreme Court unanimously found Judge May erred in instructing jurors on indignities in the Stanback divorce case. Salis bury financier Fred J. Stanback Jr. had won a separation on grounds of indignities, which his wife Virginia Stanback appealed. The court ruled the instruction could have biased the jury against Stanback.
