Citizens raise funds to aid Texas border guards

Latta Barred From Testimony in State Hospital Probe

Charles Latta, who triggered the inquiry into the state hospital for the insane in Raleigh, was not allowed to testify as physicians said he suffers dementia praecox and could impair the investigation. Attorney General Bickett and the board of directors probe charges of mismanagement by Superintendent Dr Albert Andersom and mistreatment of patients. Latta, a former patient, filed the charge months ago and has since been recommitted as an inmate.

Watermelon and Cantaloupe Acreage Up in U S

The department of agriculture reports an increase in watermelon acreage and a small rise in cantaloupe acreage. Georgia tops the watermelon list with 27,005 acres while California leads cantaloupe at 14,935 acres. North Carolina reports 6,079 acres of watermelon and 5,734 of cantaloupe.
