Edward Kitch reports in Glencoe Illinois on the North Shore Congregation Israel’s new synagogue designed by Mi nor Yamasaki featuring modern architecture. The 42 500 square foot snow white building uses concrete and steel with eight pairs of fan vaults, a two story classroom wing, and ample daylight through amber glass and skylights. The temple seats 300 with a 1900 child enrollment potential, and emphasizes light and nature in worship. Rabbi Edgar E Siskin notes the design breaks from traditional stained glass and emphasizes architecture of light and openness.
