Senate approves civil rights bill after long debate

After 83 days of debate the Senate passed the civil rights bill 73 to 27. It heads to the House for quick approval with hopes it becomes law by July 4. Johnson praised the vote and leaders predicted swift enactment amid bipartisan support and opposition from Dixie governors.
