Washington reports the army casualty list of 73 names with Lieut Galvin L. Capps of Lucana N C among those listed as died of wounds. The tally shows 17 died in action 2 died in airplane accidents 7 died of disease 1 other causes and 32 wounded severely 4 wounded and 1 missing in action.
Washington June 20. An order denying to reopen the reading express companies rate increase case was issued and shortly after withdrawn without explanation. The commission had been expected to decide in a few days on the applications. Authorization of the increase had been anticipated.
London on June 20 reports that a recent court decision that tea is not a food has been overturned by an amendment to the ministry of food order. The amendment now includes tea along with coffee and cocoa in the anti hoarding provisions.
London reports Edward Short, peace secretary for Ireland, told the house of commons there is enough evidence against recently arrested Sinn Feiners to prosecute for treason but that pursuing prosecutions is not desirable or necessary at this time.
A coastwise passenger steamship arriving in Gulf Port yesterday reported an encounter with a German submarine off the South Carolina coast last Saturday at 1:35 pm. The steamer escaped due to higher speed and wireless calls for help, prompting the submarine to abandon pursuit after surfacing less than a mile from shore.
The Guilford College board of trustees will convene at Friends church in the city tomorrow Friday at 4 p.m. Chairman J Elwood Cox announced the meeting. Trustees and Friends members are urged to attend due to several important matters to be considered.
Ruth Tyree 15, daughter of City Comptroller of Finance L P Tyree, died instantly when a high speed crash near a country club sent three youngsters from a dance into a barbed wire fence. George Jr and Bynum Tudor, sons of local insurance men, were seriously hurt. George Jr. remained unconscious with a serious head injury.

L. J. Ingram, High Point food administrator, sets corn meal at 5 cents per pound and outlines sugar limits for city and outside buyers. Sugar allowances include two pounds inside city limits and five outside, with weekly certificate handling for merchants, and special provisions for boarding houses and hotels. Authorities warn against retailer profits on sugar or flour and permit limited sugar for canning.
The Democratic nomination fight in North Carolina s 3rd district between W T Dorteh and Charles L Abernethy likely will be decided tonight after a morning session of the state board of elections. Abernethy contends the board cannot review the certified county count while Dorth argues the board has no power to go behind it despite a marginal victory of 188 votes.
London reports that twenty one German destroyers and many submarines along with auxiliary craft are trapped in Bruges canal docks due to British operations at Zeebrugge. Admiralty financial secretary Thomas J. MacNamara stated in the house that the effort exceeded initial expectations and the German fleet faces constant bombardment.

Harry Wheeler former Cochise county sheriff and U S army captain claims full responsibility for the deportation of I W W members from Bisbee Arizona last year. Twenty one Bisbee leaders including Wheeler were indicted on charges tied to the actions.
Pensacola Florida June 20 Naval reserve aviators B F Sylvester and A B Blair were killed when their aircraft collided near the naval air station. Officials said both men had been sent here from the Boston School of Technology to finish training. Next of kin listed were Mrs Hattie Sylvester Plainville Minnesota and Mrs Bertha Blair Richmond Virginia.
Greensboro June 20 Manager Taylor of Western Union telegraph notified Secretary Addison that headquarters authorized buying equipment for the Y M C A Y W C A telegraph class. Opening date uncertain due to a shortage of men, though over 30 applicants are ready.
In New York on June 20 the cotton market opened steady with a slight decline in July futures and several contracts trading 1 to 6 points higher. Early activity showed July around 2620 slipping to 2640 while October rose from 24.45 to 24.68 as demand from trade picked up amid cautious crop outlook and war news.
Italian Army reports complete air control along the Piave as Austrian offensives wane. By afternoon only one Austrian aircraft remained aloft while Italy presses the push. Prisoners say Austrian supply lines are strained and some have not eaten for 38 hours.
As thousands watched on June 1, an Italian airplane compelled the crew of an Austrian machine gun float to surrender after Italian infantry and artillery failed to subdue it. Proximity of lines hampered artillery use, forcing the dramatic air intervention.
