MIT announces that James R. Killian Jr. will retire June 30 1971 as chairman of the Corporation MITs board of trustees. Killian has led the board since 1959 after serving as MIT president and as Eisenhowers science aide. The retirement was revealed at an alumni homecoming luncheon.
The Japan U.S. Textile Information Service reports Japan’s exports of man-made finer fabrics to the United States rose 9.3 percent in the first four months of this year compared with 1969, but are 16.6 percent below the 1966 peak. For January–April 1970 shipments totaled 59,253,000 square yards versus 54,189,000 in 1969.
