Four persons were questioned and released in Calypso North Carolina after the Bank of Mount Olive robbery of 3287. Two of five road gang fugitives recaptured in North Carolina
ASHEVILLE Two of five convicts who escaped from a Mc Dowell County road gang yesterday are back in custody. Roy Wheeler 18 of Barnardsville and Daniel Smith 40 of Asheville were captured after the escape. The pair took a guard shotgun and drove off in a state highway truck later found abandoned on N C 26 between Shelby and the Rutherford County line. Remaining at large are John Weaver 35 of Kannapolis Jesse James Lyda 40 of Hendersonville James Russell 27 of Lillington. Wheeler was serving 3 5 years for breaking and entering and Smith 7 10 years on Buncombe for highway robbery. Prison officials say Lyda and Weaver escaped once, Russell three times. The men fled the Charles Ward stop for water in McDowell County near the Burke line. Two prisoners did not escape. Weaver wore stripes. others wore brown prison clothes.
