Plan to recover gasoline via better still vapor condensation
The Bureau of Mines proposed boosting gasoline output by 126 million gallons by more complete condensation of still vapors in refineries. A study of 13 refineries found an average recovery of four tenths of a barrel per crude charged, with potential gains especially in Oklahoma, North Texas and Louisiana plants. Construction costs ≈15 dollars per daily gallon capacity, with higher losses possible in less efficient, water-scarce plants.
