A fierce New Jersey to New York hurricane pushed death tolls past sixty as City Island suffered the heaviest losses. Eight bodies washed ashore from the tide while police and coast guards scoured Long Island Sound for missing victims.
Newark Ohio June 12 search continues for bodies believed buried in Buckeye Lake park wreckage after a tornado struck the amusement area killing three from Columbus. A 17 year old boy is missing and nine injured survive. Search widens to the lake in case of drownings as seven small boats are missing.
An electrical storm hit northern and central New York on June 12 causing two deaths and about 2 million dollars in damage. The Mohawk valley flood conditions spread with Syracuse alone suffering around 1 million dollars in waterlogged business and residential areas. A New York Central passenger station train was stranded in floodwaters and passengers were rescued by firemen.
Mrs Elliott Way of Ashboro recovers in Burrus McCain Hospital after an operation. Friends are glad to learn of her improved condition.
Chesley M. Hutchings of Golston North Carolina impressed Harvard faculty by answering all questions on a three hour romance languages and literature exam correctly. Thirteen professors judged the test while Hutchings, versed in fifteen languages, pursued a PhD and recently earned a fellowship to study abroad.
Richmond police say five Negro suspects are jailed in connection with the stabbing death of L. H. Burleson a trolley conductor in South Richmond after ejecting an alleged disorderly man from a street car. A. L. Hubband, a motorman on the following car, witnessed the stabbing and can identify the slayer who is expected to be arrested soon. Authorities may place a special guard in the neighborhood.
Willa Moore Springs, a new resort and pleasure place of the Piedmont, will open Saturday June 17 ten miles east of Lexington on the Lexington Asheboro road. Owner W L Hepler of Greensboro has invested in a seven or eight acre lake with a stone dam, a bath house, and a large dancing pavilion. The site features mineral springs long noted for their good qualities and a newly built road from the main highway.
Richmond Va June 12 Denied a pardon by Gov Trinkle. Irrank Stewart a member of the Alexandria Va bar who recently figured prominently in an investigation of divorces in Alexandria tomorrow will begin to serve a sentence of five days in jail for contempt of court.
W. Lt. Graveley a longtime prominent dealer in leaf tobacco in Danville died at General Hospital after a period of creeping paralysis. A fall at his Leaksville, North Carolina home led to his transfer, and he was 72 years old.
The House Agriculture Committee today ordered a favorable report on the Capper Tincher bill to amend the future trading act in response to a Supreme Court ruling that sections of the act are inoperative. The measure, introduced earlier, was expected to be taken up by the House today.
In Newark New Jersey one firefighter died and six were injured when two fire engine trucks collided on Saturday night in the city.
Paris June 12 Bills ratifying the Pacific armament conference accord are in committee in the chamber of deputies. Premier Poincaire seeks prompt action before the summer session. Officials anticipate ratification with a reservation on the Root resolution limiting submarine attacks on merchant ships and forbidding merchant ships to arm against submarines.

In San Francisco on June 26 the Disabled American Veterans of the World War plan a convention to press for swift action on hospital conditions, reorganization of veterans affairs, and broader aid for mental and tuberculosis cases. Grady Ferguson, a Randleman resident charged with daylight robbery at People's Bank in Randleman, was brought back from New Orleans to Randolph County. Elizabeth City reports the death of 19 year old Charles Avcock son of Mr and Mrs C P Avcock Tampico. He drowned yesterday near Hellhaven after returning home from a year at the University of North Carolina. He had been a student there.
